Directors of Hashtag Press: Helen Lewis and Abiola Bello

Hashtag Press was officially established in October 2016 by book PR Helen Lewis and children's/ young adults author Abiola Bello (co-founders of The Author School) building on decades of combined experience in publishing, PR, writing, research, media and journalism. We didn't print our first book till May 2017 and have been going strong ever since.

Having worked with hundreds of authors since the start of The Author School, we recognised a niche in the industry for an honest, trustworthy, high calibre, publishing house.

Hashtag Press is a boutique publishing house. We publish everything from picture books to middle-grade, YA, adult fiction and non-fiction. We are passionate about books with strong female characters, diversity and inclusion and when we read your book, we want to fall in love with the characters, laugh or cry (or both!). We have different tastes. Helen is a more non-fiction, psychological thriller kind of girl and Abiola is obsessed with YA/ middle-grade and chick lit, so we both need to be obsessed with your book to take it to the next stage.

We will consider EVERY submission that we receive. We will reply to everyone within three weeks. But if it's a no, don't give up! Consider joining us at The Author School for more help and guidance, maybe publish through INK! Or invest in a good edit and then re-send back to us.We won't just leave you stranded.

We will contact you to arrange a meeting face-to-face or via Skype (we're open to collaboration with authors around the world). During the meeting we'll discuss our thoughts on your book proposal and your author platform, and we'll hear from you about your plans and goals. If we feel it's a good fit for our publishing house, we will then move to the next stage.

We will work with you to create a bespoke, collaborative publishing package that will require an investment from you and an investment from us. Collaboratively, we will create the best possible product (your book) and work with you to build your author platform, plan an awesome sales, PR and marketing strategy, and provide regular updates on the progress of your book's production.

We publish a select number of books each year, so we are very selective. We do not do print on demand. We only produce high-quality, outstanding commercial books.

We are going to take charge of the entire process, just like a traditional publishing house. This will include editing, cover art, PR, appearances, distribution and author platform. Your voice, as the author, will be imperative. We will listen, consult and advise and if you're book sells very well, we will offer a traditional publishing contract.

Some of our titles are Amazon bestsellers, Waterstones bestsellers and our books are stocked in independent bookstores as well as Waterstones, Foyles and WHSmith. Our books have been nominated for the Carnegie Medal, London's Big Read and more. We are always looking for new opportunities to showcase our books. We have foreign rights agents and an amazing sales team. Because we are passionate about the books we publish, we always strive to get the best for our authors. We have many contacts in the publishing industry and our authors will receive the best service and opportunities, from speaking opportunities at literary festivals to book signings, publicity in the mainstream press to sales in the major bookshops.

We are not just looking for great books, we are also looking for fantastic authors who will work hard to push their book. We are very passionate about bringing new voices into the publishing world.

We can't wait to hear from you!
